Review: The Incredibles
The plot is fresh and original. The story is about the Incredibles who help people in society. It starts with the main character, Mr. Incredible. He helps the police to catch the thieves in the city. But due to some political problems, the Incredibles cannot do their jobs. The government does not want them to use their super power. So all the Incredibles need to give up their jobs and go back to their normal lives.

America's HeyDay for Hood Ornaments
For the Average Joe, many novelty and humorous hood ornaments then abounded. These were manufactured by various supply companies and were purchased easily because of their affordability. Among these, figures of Donald Duck and Mickey Mouse, whimsical traffic cops with spinning arms and even busts of Uncle Sam were just a few of these novelty ornaments seen daily. The Wiggler Company in Buffalo, New York introduced the 'Spinning Rotoscope', a whirling ornament featuring four bright red cup shaped discs intended to twirl in turbulent airstream.

MADAGASCAR!
HOLY SHIT. This movie was freakin AMAZING. Full of emotion, this phenomenol DREAM work transformed paroxysms of laughter into silent sobs of anguish. I highly recommend all of you FINDING NEMO

lovers to run out to the theaters tonight. There were soo many sexual connotations in that movie, but funny thing is– the wee little 6 yr olds were bursting with laughter when a hippo surfaces from the water screaming sex appeal. Oh, better yet, when Alex the lion (Ben Stiller) was about to ram a gigantic wooden trunk up Melvin the giraffe’s...

American Gods
Neil Gaiman is one of those writers whose books I can’t seem to be able to put down when I start reading them. He is probably more famous for his graphic novels than for his books, but the books are what attracted me in first place. The few of his graphics novels I’ve skimmed didn’t impress much. But that is probably because I’m not much into comics anyway.

Blog Cartoons?
Cartoons featuring blogging are interesting, but how about a blog cartoon? Here I am getting back to Scott McCloud's idea that if we had all continued drawing from childhood, we'd be writing and drawing comics rather than just writing.

Castle Rock Film History
The Castle Films company started out distributing newsreels, mostly to schools, in the 1930's. A few years later they began issuing a catalog of films for home use. 16 mm projector owners bought and watched abridged versions of Abbott and Costello comedies, horror movies, and cartoons much the way we collect and watch DVD's. Castle Films continued producing these films until the mid-1970's.

Comicsblogging
Some recent superhero comics, quickly (though I always say that) recapped:
Marvel Knights Spider-Man, by Hudlin, Tan and Sibal. This issue reveals last issue as Reginald Hudlin’s Spider-Man shakeout cruise - it had its entertaining bits but the ending was so off in tone from the rest of the book as to ruin the whole thing. Also, Billy Tan’s art on the classroom scenes only worked if Peter Parker taught science to midgets. Parker is a high school teacher, but the kids only came up to his waist. This issue is far more surehanded. I’m glad my enjoyment of Hudlin’s Black Panther #4 convinced me to give...

Kitty Comics
Hi gang. I’ve finally got today’s update posted; sorry for the delay. It’s in the “Webcomic” section, where I’ve added another incredible daily for “Clan of the Cats” by Jamie Robertson. It’s a daily from January of this year, and features kitten Sebo saving Chelsea from harm. As always, there’s the original art pictured with a full-color print of the final page. Go and check it out, and don’t forget to visit the COTC site as well! Tell Jamie I said hi!

Madagascar
I've been noticing that Dreamworks always uses many famous actors to voice in their animated movies, and Pixar uses less. But I find most Pixar movies have better plots than Dreamworks. The only good Dreamworks movie I can remember in the last 2 years is only The Shrek 2. Good actors don't always guarantee good movies...

Review: Kung Fu Hustle
Tonight we went to see “Kung Fu Hustle.” A totally different genre from “Head-On,” it’s a comedic send-up of kung fu movies, but complete with all the cool kung fu moves and special effects. It is FUNNY. Ebert wasn’t kidding when he said it’s Jackie Chan and Buster Keaton meets Quentin Tarantino and Bugs Bunny. But really, the most important thing is that it’s a comedy.

Review: Madagascar
The latest computer-animated extravaganza from DreamWorks is certainly an improvement over last year’s desperate “Shark Tale,” but it’s not as crisp start-to-finish as the “Shrek” movies. And it falls into the same trap as so many films of this genre (with the notable exception of “The Incredibles"): In an effort to seem hip and high-energy with a litany of pop-culture references, the writing (from a team of four) instead comes off as hackneyed and lazy.

Open Source Animation
I agree with this blogger's conclusions.Free-range filming? Orange is something like that: A proposed 3D animated short film to be made collaboratively and with the use of open source software, chiefly Blender. What’s more, it will be released sans traditional copyright, free for anyone to download, watch and pass on.
So, should Hollywood (or, at least Pixar) start sweating hard?

Review: Finding Nemo
Who knew...Finding Nemo is an underwater adventure between a father and son. Nemo, a boy clownfish, is tragically stolen away from the safety of his coral reef home, and his timid father must search the dangerous and unforgiving ocean to find him. Not only that the movie is beautifully made but the kind of struggle that that boy clownfish goes through to get back to his father is really inspiring. The father fish also shows tremendous love for his baby to go through hardships to ultimately find his son.

Lusting After Joe
The man, Joe Bulmer, is the main character in Th1rt3en - a comic reprinted by DC but originally on 2000 AD comics. He's an incredibly scruffy, sneering punk you want to knee in the groin, grab 'hold of his hair and push your tongue in his mouth. But due to the fact that he's straight, he'd probably blow me away with his telekinetic powers, which he uses to great effect in the book. It doesn't keep me from adding him to our cavalcade of crushes over here on this site and in my cold, black heart.

Comics in Education
What’s so great about comics? It’s simple. Comics combine images and text on a page but still make the reader conjure up their imagination. Comics give the reader a template as to what the world and the characters of a work of literature should look like. But I’m not here to talk about how great comics are. I want to offer an educational initiative that has been thought about ever since the 40’s: to use comics for educational purposes.

Tony the Tiger Dies
Thurl Ravenscroft, best known as the voice of Tony the Tiger in the Kellogg’s Frosted Flakes commercials, has died at the age of 91, the cause being reported as prostate cancer. His rich, bass voice was also known to audiences from his many years as a singer, plus you could hear him all over Disneyland. (That’s Thurl singing, “Grim, Grinning Ghosts” in the Haunted Mansion, and one of the busts along that ride was fashioned to look like him.) He also sang “You’re a Mean One, Mr. Grinch” on the animated TV...

For those who don’t know, Space Ghost Coast to Coast is on the Cartoon Network and recasts a 1960’s cartoon character as a talk show host. Space Ghost “interviews celebrities” and they generally talk nonsense. The interview subjects are actually filmed ahead of time in front of a black screen without really knowing what the show is about and then the show creators edit together old cartoon footage and re-dub Space Ghost’s lines.

Revenge of the Sith Homework
Nohemi and I just got back from watching the movie. I have to refer to the link that I posted a few days ago because the microseries shown in Cartoon Network makes this episode more fun. It explains the Clone Wars which is what happens between episode 2 and 3. The microseries ends about the same day that episode 3 starts. It explains why General Grevious breaths funny. The movie itself is awesome and lightsaber fights up the wazoo. However, ultimate lightsaber fight is still Darth Maul vs OB1 & Qui Gon.

Everything You Wanted To Know About Scottish Political Cartoons
Devine (2000) describes incidents of anti-Scottish racism in political cartoons during the mid to late 1700’s and notes that David Hume declared, ’ some hate me because I am not a Whig, some because I am not a Christian, and all because I am a Scotsman’, (Devine (2000), p28). In its time the 1757 Militia Act incensed the Scots because it excluded Scotland from a force for home defence, English retaliation for the Jacobite rebellions, in conjunction with attempts to eradicate symbols of Scottish nationality, such as the Kilt, this...

Errors and Omissions Department
Today’s “Doonesbury” - May 16, 2005 - slight error by Garry Trudeau!
The character B.D., the veteran of the War in Iraq and who lost his leg, tells his daughter that he has to return to the hospital to check out his new prosthetic leg.
“You’re going back to the hospital again, Daddy?” “Last time. At least, I hope so, Alex,” says B.D.
Umm, B.D. - I could have sworn that your daughter’s Sam (as in Samantha). ;-) “Alex” is the name of Mike Doonesbury’s daughter and she’s currently being recruited by the US Army for the war (much against Doonesbury’s stern objections).

Great Films
Again, I should not get so wound up about it. Maybe I wouldn’t if I didn’t have twins 5 years after first child. See, as sick as I am of the McDonalds toys, Finding Nemo and Monsters, Inc. were still great films. They don’t take away from the original idea’s quality. As weak as most film sequels are, I can still watch the originals and appreciate them on their own merits.

Stretch
When two days of last week’s Doonesbury lamented how the John Bolton affair was just the latest skirmish in a neverending ideological re-fighting of the 1960s, I thought it was a bit of a stretch.
