A Baby Super Hero

cartoons the incredibles baby
We like the Farty Pants concept.

I was laying in bed this morning playing with the girls. They have been extremely gassy lately. I’d like to think they got that from their Mom but I highly doubt it. Anyway, I was trying to figure out if there had ever been a super hero that was a baby? I think there was a stretch one, but I can’t remember. I’m also sure that the Incredibles had a baby (I think). Anyway, I want to create a new set of twin super hero’s and call them Farty Pants.

Short Film By Pixar Founders

cartoon pixar pencil test
Click through for the link to the cartoon.

Hows this for darn cool, In 1988 a group of artist created a short film for Apple using the powerful new Macintosh II. The film was called Pencil Test. Two of those artist who worked on that film have gone on to have…moderate success. You may have heard of them, their names are John Lasseter and Andrew Stanton.

Memory Lane

Amongst memories, a Doonesbury memory.

At the gift shop, same one sill here this morning, I picked up a set of Doonesbury paperback books. A collection of a few years of the series, or months? But it was full of Zonker Harris and his super starred college football helmet. It was a fun train ride.

Dark Horse Comics

cartoons dark horse comics cover
We love those Dark Horse Comics.

I was certainly not one of the first members of Queensryche’s fan club, but I was definitely one of the earlier ones. I remember periodically getting one of those old photocopied newsletters in the mail, with all of the nice letters from the band, and those cool anime drawings of the band by a then-unknown Tomoko Saito, who is a big name in the industry now at Dark Horse Comics among other places.

Cartoon Memories

cartoons bugs bunny illustration
Great cartoon memories.

I remember getting up in the mornings and watching the Little Rascals and the Three Stooges before school everyday. Those shows were old as hell but they are great to this day. The same is true about the cartoons from those days. TBS used to air the good cartoons, Tom and Jerry, or Bugs Bunny. The Merrie Melodies were some of my favorites.

Clowning Around At The GOP

cartoons beavis and butthead joke
I missed the comparison of Barney Frank and Beavis and Butthead.

It’s interesting that Republicans feel free to say nasty things in about gay people today just as they openly made racist slurs back in the day. Equating Rep. Frank to Beavis and Butthead is beyond the pale — and, frankly, I don’t think Jesus would approve.

There are two strips that I try to catch in the morning's newspaper: Doonesbury and Dilbert. I know I can get them online, but there's something valuable about reading them at the kitchen table.

International Women's Day

cartoons ben franklin polical cartoons
From a post on International Women's Day, this bit about revolutionary political cartoons.

Today a young woman came into the special collection where I work and she wanted to look at some political cartoons. I showed her what we had, and it led to a good chat about Ben Franklin and the difference between American and French revolutionary print culture. I pointed toward our copy of Mary Wollstonecraft's Historical and Moral View of the Origin and Progress of the French Revolution and said, "It's the same Wollstonecraft who wrote A Vindication of the Rights of Woman." Blank stare. I summarized. "Men of the eighteenth century wrote a lot of misogynistic crap about how women are worthless because all they care about is money and clothes and entertainment. Wollstonecraft points out that all women are educated to do is marry rich, look pretty, and have a good time. Until we provide an equal education to women and men, she argues, men will always hate women for what they grow up to be." The student blinked a few times and said she'd pick up a copy on her way home.

1000 Calories?!

cartoon donut hamburger
The donut hamburger, as promulgated by The Boondocks.

Now this isn’t some creative genius at work here, since Mr. Vandross seemingly came up with his own version of a sandwich similar in an act of desperation and being bunless. A burger quite similar to this also makes an appearance in the Cartoon Network Adult Swim show The Boondocks episode called “The Itis”. Grandpa makes up a donut burger and opens a restuarant that serves them up. But people get “The Itis’ whenever they eat one of his burgers, which is akin to the all too familiar Food Coma or being Food Drunk. So Grandpa puts beds in his establishment for his patrons to sleep off their Itis. The problem is that people become grossly overweight, and the Itis burger becomes the new crack. People are too fat and too tired to work, they lose their jobs and turn to crime in the streets to get enough money to get their fix of another Itis burger. It’s a bit of social satire, but it certainly has a ring of truth to it. So Krispy Kreme and The Grizzlies certainly can’t lay claim to “inventing” this concoction, but they can lay claim to commercializing it and putting a few people closer to their graves with their every so “tasty” heart clogging “goodness”. *gag*

That's disgusting.

Life Imitates Cartoons

My life copies Dilbert more that it copies Beavis and Butthead.

Last week was pretty stressful, and this week isn’t starting off all that great either. The annoying nervous tick eye twitch thing is back, which drives me nuts. It reminds me of the teacher on Beavis and Butthead.
