Review: Happy Feet
The movie contains a childs sense of fun with jokes adult will also enjoy, a move first seen in Toy Story, and used is many animated films since.

Mickey Mouse Redrawn
Byrne’s comparison to Mickey Mouse is flawed, I think. He grants that the design has changed over the years, in oder to continue to appeal to a contemporary audience, but asserts that whatever crop of artists are avaiable at any time are religiously “on model”. What he fails to take into account is the animation medium itself(to say that animators are on model from frame to frame is akin to saying Ben Affleck looks like Ben Affleck from frame to frame) as well as the onslaught of merchandise which employs so much variety, much of it never seen in film or comics. The fact is, the look of Mickey Mouse is malleable, and open to interpretation, and the company encourages and exploits it.

"oh, the things you can think up if only you try!"
dr. seuss, like many great artists, plays with paradox and layers and layers of meaning. and on the topic of meaning, he is paradoxical, too. while it is abundantly obvious that at least some of his pieces, like the lorax or yertle the turtle (and of course his political cartoons), carry strong messages about society, he has also been quoted as saying, “preachers in pulpits talked about what a great message is in [dr. seuss’s books]. no matter what you do, somebody always imputes meaning into your books.”

Pixkins
Leave it to my friend Jason to come up with the coolest pumpkin design I've seen in a while. He dubbed it a Pixkin because the character depicted is from a Pixar film.

Remembering Those We'd Rather Forget
How does one react to the death of arch-villians? When Richard Nixon, probably my nation’s most divisive president before our current one, died, many on the left complained that papers, including the New York Times, whitewashed his disgraceful behavior in office and emphasized his triumphs, like his contacts with China. Gary Trudeau’s Doonesbury ran a set of strips that repeated Nixon-era cartoons, hastily recaptioned with (sarcastic) praise for the late President.

See You In The Funny Papers!
However, in performing research for this blog post, I have since discovered that "See you in the funnies!" may not be considered "cheerful and breezy" by all recipients. This news saddens me deeply.

Watch This Kid
Seems to me, anyone willing to squeeze themselves into the machine for a stuffed SpongeBob Squarepants should be able to take it home. But I guess he does have a story to tell, how many people can say they were in a vending machine?
