I Hate Aardman
I don’t get the appeal of these films; I don’t understand the people who like them. The best Hollywood animations (Toy Story, Shrek, The Incredibles) manage to be at once witty, irreverent and affectionate - the sort of kids’ films that parents can enjoy. By contrast, the Aardman outings appear to have have somehow skipped a generation. These are the kids’ films that grandparents can enjoy (and when I say grandparents, I mean the birch-and-flog-’em variety, not the nice kind).

Boundin'
A favorite short movie of mine is “Boundin’”. It is a Pixar/Disney animated short that is included with “The Incredibles”. The first time I saw it, I thought it rather annoying. The music was not my favorite and it was not very funny. But the second time I watched it, I was addicted. It is available for purchase on iTunes here if interested.

Playing With Toys
Click through for more pics!Armed with Lasseter's notes, (I still have them, by the way) the writers and board crew went back to work fixing the story problems. New people had come on board as "Toy Story 2" began to pick up momentum. Dan Jeup was our new Head of Story, and David Salter joined Edie Bleiman in Editorial. Over time, more artists and animators would join the crew as they spun off of "A Bug's life."

Sleeping With Bugs
I’ve been working on my fitness site. It’s mostly ready, but I need to refigure my prices and do some other tweaking and then that one will be ready too. Today has been quiet, but differently than yesterday. It’s a disconnected kind of quiet and it’s pretty heavy. Tim and I have been having an off day. He’s sleeping now, so I changed the channel and put on a Bugs Bunny cartoon in the hope that it will give him sweet dreams and warm reminiscings of childhood.

World's Smallest Violin
I love this video from South Park. They usually have the greatest humor that I see on TV. Of course then some episodes just suck, but most lately have been awesome.

Brighter Minds
The kids are in absolute heaven! They’re busy playing the Brain Quest game right now. The Marvel books must be good, because I caught Noah reading them when he was supposed to be doing his schoolwork. The computer games will have to wait till the weekend because the kids are being disciplined with a “computer-free” week, but they look like a lot of fun. I’m not usually crazy about the Cartoon Network characters, but the game looks like basic arcade game stuff, nothing that really involves the characters’ storylines from the network’s shows.

Corporate Schwag
Best place for corporate schwag? I think Pixar. I knew someone who worked there and he had great stuff, hats, fleece jackets, chambray shirts, everything. The on-staff masseuse is probably their best perk though. I’m sure Google has better stuff these days, but I don’t see it first-hand anymore.

GoonBlog: The Podcast
This is some funny stuff, people. It’s a little on the long side, but we had a 2 month lull to cover. My audio editing abilities are creeping towards “a little better”, and you have to stay with us the full 23 minutes just to hear all the fart sounds and SlapShot quotes. If you’re on the market for a ridiculous hockey podcast, check us out.

Review: Cars
Cars - Not as good as the two Toy Storys, The Incredibles, or Finding Nemo, but still a solid film. When I watch these Pixar films, I always keep thinking that they’re for kids, but afterwards, I start anthropomorphizing everything. Do leaves feel bad when they fall from the tree? Do worm families get torn apart by rainstorms? Do snails and slugs ever mention the word salt to each other? It never ends.

Damien Hirst Exhibition
Bansky’s two works are pretty famous and both works at the show combined well-known icons. The first was Nick Uht’s Kim hand in hand with Ronald McDonald and Mickey Mouse. In a sense, war has become merely news and entertainment for the middle classes as highlighted in the Financial Times. The other was a Horseman of the Apocalypse dressed as a riot policeman a la Seattle 1999 and with the Smiley as his face. Be happy! That’s an order!

Disney World
M-I-C-K-E-Y ….M-O-U-S-E …. Remember that tune? The Mickey Mouse club? Yeah. I was in Vegas few years back and in France (which was just back door to me…same as me driving across the Causeway) and I’ve always enjoyed the day trip to Paris, en-route : Disneyland Paris.
