"Incredible" Inspiration For Macbook Air?

cartoon incredibles apple keyboard
Did The Incredibles inspire Apple's newest laptop?

So I talked about this on a recent episode of the Maccast Loop, but in case some of you missed it I thought I would mention it here. The other day I was watching the Pixar film “The Incredibles” and noticed it had a scene that could have possibly inspired the Macbook Air. If not, it at least has an eerily predictive nature about it.

Quis Custodiet Ipsos Custodes?

cartoons the incredibles family
A look at cartoons, heroes, anti-heroes, and even The Incredibles.

I Hate Aardman

cartoon wallace and gromit
Prefering The Incredibles to Aardman Animation.

I don’t get the appeal of these films; I don’t understand the people who like them. The best Hollywood animations (Toy Story, Shrek, The Incredibles) manage to be at once witty, irreverent and affectionate - the sort of kids’ films that parents can enjoy. By contrast, the Aardman outings appear to have have somehow skipped a generation. These are the kids’ films that grandparents can enjoy (and when I say grandparents, I mean the birch-and-flog-’em variety, not the nice kind).

From the Director of The Incredibles, Brad Bird, comes Ratatouille. It is another Pixar collaboration but unlike Cars (this year’s Pixar offering), a relevant story in Ratatouille is immediately recognizable in the trailer.

A Baby Super Hero

cartoons the incredibles baby
We like the Farty Pants concept.

I was laying in bed this morning playing with the girls. They have been extremely gassy lately. I’d like to think they got that from their Mom but I highly doubt it. Anyway, I was trying to figure out if there had ever been a super hero that was a baby? I think there was a stretch one, but I can’t remember. I’m also sure that the Incredibles had a baby (I think). Anyway, I want to create a new set of twin super hero’s and call them Farty Pants.

Why We Don't Have Children

cartoons the incredibles
I'm not sure Dr. Spock covered this topic.

The 7 year old nephew asked 2 questions a minute during our attempt to watch The Incredibles. We tried to ignore him and when that didn’t work we bribed him with a dollar to “stop with the questions already!”. Needless to say I never had to relinquish the dollar.

Well, some might tell you that NewMexiKen can well up watching The Incredibles, but that’s because they don’t recognize the difference between emotions and an allergic reaction to popcorn. With that caveat, I’ll list three scenes that get to me.

Review: Fantastic Four

cartoons fantastic four
It was a superhero movie, but I thought The Incredibles demonstrated much more wit than The Fantastic Four.

We went to see Fantastic Four this weekend and it was awesome. Just like the Spiderman and X-Men men movies as well as The Incredibles this was what a super hero movie should be.

Solstice Superheroes

cartoons the incredibles cosplay
Some fun up in Seattle:

The sheer lurid thrill of nudity and gigantic puppets wasn’t enough to get us out to Fremont this year. Something about a patchouli scented throng of gentle hippies and aggro bo-hunks didn’t sound appealing on a sleepy Saturday morning, but luckily the fine folks at Flog took some pictures. The Incredibles made a (ahem) fine showing and apparently there was even a naked, painted Mr. Fantastic. I’ll avoid making a joke about Reed Richards and his amazing powers of flexibility. You can thank me later.

Check Out The Commentary

Good tip on the The Incredibles DVD for animation nuts and wannabees:

If you are at all into really flipping amazing computer (or any other) animation, I highly, highly recommend the director’s and animators’ commentaries on The Incredibles dvd. I am not a commentary sort of gal (well, not dvd commentary, anyway), but–well, just watch them. You don’t need me to explain.

Review: The Incredibles

cartoons the incredibles poster
Good review of The Incredibles here:

The plot is fresh and original. The story is about the Incredibles who help people in society. It starts with the main character, Mr. Incredible. He helps the police to catch the thieves in the city. But due to some political problems, the Incredibles cannot do their jobs. The government does not want them to use their super power. So all the Incredibles need to give up their jobs and go back to their normal lives.

Eisner's Disney Exit Leads To Pixar talks

I think Disney's new CEO will have to be one of The Incredibles to get a deal with Pixar at this point.

Because of his turbulent relationship with Pixar Chief Executive Steve Jobs, Eisner was seen as the main stumbling block for Disney to renew its lucrative partnership with Pixar, which has produced such blockbuster films as "Toy Story", "Finding Nemo" and "The Incredibles" in its partnership with Disney.

The Incredibles DVD Release

cartoons the incredibles logo
Sounds like The Incredibles is the only game at your local video rental store this week. That's okay by me.

Besides The Incredibles, everything is lame this week.. I guess no one wanted to compete with the mighty powerhouse that is Pixar. I’m planning on buying The Incredibles Tuesday morning, and considering I havn’t seen it yet, I’m pretty excited. I’ve heard great things about it, and I loved The Iron Giant (also directed by Brad Bird).

The Incredibles is great. I loved it.

The Incredibles wasn’t GREAT, but it was very good.

All said and done, I really enjoyed The Incredibles, and I’m very happy I own it, so I can watch it again and again.. but I’d only give it a 9 outta 10.

And Bob, I only say Finding Nemo was better because it it was all things The Incredibles was, plus it had TONS of humor, and was very touching at the end. Plus, I guess I just relate to the “little fish in a big ocean” idea more than “super-hero family”

Dex, I now own The Incredibles on your recommendation. I’ll be watching it this weekend. Where do I send the receipt for reimbursement if it suxors?

Video Games Are Better

animation fantasy vii
I disagree. Video games like Fantasy VII are amazing, but the graphics in The Incredibles were stupendous. It might just be that the two have very different rendering objectives.

Everyone seems to be in love with these Pixar movies, but I don’t see why. The movies themselves are alright, but nothing I would buy for myself, and the pride and joy of the whole thing is supposed to be the animation, but the truth is, I’ve seen better stuff in video games.

Go ahead and laugh at the akwardly shaped characters in The Incredibles, but I’ll be dropping my jaw at Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children, and that hasn’t even come out yet.

The Incredibles

cartoons the incredibles
A big Pixar fan here:

The genre of family-oriented computer animated feature film, invented and pioneered by Pixar Animation Studios, has seen a great decline in the past couple of years. Now, every other movie studio churns out another one in hopes of being the next Toy Story or Finding Nemo. In this reviewer’s opinion, the formula has gotten incredibly stale. It’s the same thing over and over again – Lots of humor and silliness for the kids, with some clever pop-culture references for adults, lots of talking inanimate objects voiced by recognizable...

However, if there is anything that you can depend on in the dreary world of computer animated movies, it is the name Pixar. Those five letters are quite simply synonymous with quality. They started the genre and still no one does it better. From Toy Story to Monsters, Inc. to Finding Nemo, Pixar has consistently produced astonishingly high quality films in both entertainment and artistic value. Pixar’s latest, The Incredibles was written and directed by Brad Bird who gave us the wonderful 1999 film The Iron Giant. It is yet another staggering...

Conservative Streak in The Incredibles?

cartoons the incredibles helen
Didn't pick this up when I saw the film.

I finally got hold of a copy of The Incredibles (there’s been a month-long run at our local video store). An instant classic! Here is a film pulsing with energy and exuberance and humor, the kind of film that reminds us that America still beats with a big, warm heart. Brad Bird should have received an Oscar for best direction and best screenplay, as well as for best performance as a supporting actress, weird as this sounds. He plays the diminutive fashion tyrant Edna Mode, who all but steals the film (and it’s no small film to steal)....

The Incredibles, by the way, has a conservative streak. Note the alternate opening scene included in the DVD bonus material. Helen Parr (a.k.a. Elastagirl) overhears some feminist career types talking loudly at a neighborhood BBQ:
