Hayao Miyazaki

cartoons toy story hayao miyazaki
A fan of Hayao Miyazaki here.

I think this master doesn´t need an exhausting introduction. His fantastic animation films set new milestones in this genre and proved the disney-ized industry wrong that classic, 2D-animation is dying since cgi-movies like Toy Story and it´s sucessors appeared on the radar. BTW, I have the feeling that this new genre is quickly loosing it´s appeal due to weak stories and somewhat repetitive settings.

Toy Story 3 Announced

cartoon toy story scene
Good news for Toy Story fans!

The long rumored third Toy Story sequel is happening, only this time it’s Pixar’s guys in charge. Originally Disney was planning one without any of the people who made the first two movies, but with the Disney/Pixar merger Toy Story director John Lasseter is now running the Disney animation department. What that means for you and me is we’re getting a good movie.

Playing With Toys

cartoons making toy story
The inside story on the making of Toy Story.

Armed with Lasseter's notes, (I still have them, by the way) the writers and board crew went back to work fixing the story problems. New people had come on board as "Toy Story 2" began to pick up momentum. Dan Jeup was our new Head of Story, and David Salter joined Edie Bleiman in Editorial. Over time, more artists and animators would join the crew as they spun off of "A Bug's life."

My Superhero

cartoons buzz lighyear
Buzz Lightyear, superhero.

Using Maya

cartoons toy story maya
Welcome to the Toy Story animation club.

As it stands my second year of University has just about finished. I have a 2500 drama report due on June 1st, the same day I have an exam on Maya which is the software Toy Story was made on. However, instead of making a 90min movie, I must create a 30s animation (decided on the day) in three hours - this sounds easy as I type it but it isn’t, it really isn’t.

Joe Ranft Dead At 45

Sad story.

Joe Ranft, died yesterday. He was the head of Pixar’s story department, the voice of “Wheezy” in the Toy Story movies, “Heimlich” in “A Bug’s Life” and worked on many other animation projects before joining Pixar.

Heaven

cartoons toy story dolls woody
This sounds like heaven for any kid:

She is now in her room watching Toy Story 2, which I got from eBay. She’s become a freak for Buzz and Woody. I even scored some Wallies, so she now has Buzz and Woody on her wall, too. Oy, that room: Pooh bear, Toy Story, Blues Clues, Spongebob…it’s a hodgepodge.

New Toy Story on Drawing Boards

cartoons toy story 3 poster
A funny story about Toy Story and raising kids:

Just heard on the news that Disney studios has finalized a script and will be producing Toy Story 3, with an anticipated release date of spring 2008. For anyone unfamiliar with the Toy Story movies, these are computer-animated productions which follow the adventures of a group of toys that come to life.

The Phantom Menace Disappoints

cartoons toy story cell
I like this point about humor in kids films: it doesn't have to be slapstick and silly to work.

Jar-Jar Binks. Do I need to say more? Yes? Okay, I will. Jar-Jar Binks would have been good if he had been funny. Now the justification that Lucas has used is that this is a kids film. But so was Star Wars, so is Toy Story, Shrek and Finding Nemo. But that doesn’t mean that the humour has to be of the slapstick silliness that Binks represents. He’s just not cool. Chewbacca? He’s cool. R2-D2? He’s cool. Even Yoda when we first meet him in Empire Strikes Back - irritating but cool. Jar-Jar Binks? Just not cool!...
