Bugs By A Hair
And for those curious about the outcome of the balloting, Bugs Bunny beat Gabriella 3 votes to 2. The exit polls showed that Gabriella and Bugs split the female vote, but Bugs held a commanding lead among voters 18 and over, and that pushed him over the top.

Mike Wieringo

I Want An Easter Egg!
Does anyone remember that Bugs Bunny cartoon with the bratty kid yelling, “I want an Easter Egg! I want an Easter Egg!”? (Total misuse of punctuation there, I know, but putting the question mark inside the quotes just didn’t seem right. Should I have removed the last ! and put the ? instead? That would be weird, too.) It was actually a cartoon from 1947 called Easter Yeggs (and I’m amazed that a)it’s on IMDB and b)it’s from 1947 but they were still playing it in the 70s when I grew up. Well, here you go - some Easter Yeggs just for you: ACK! If you DLed this the first time around, the grass wasn’t in there! So here it is WITH the grass, as promised!

Sleeping With Bugs
I’ve been working on my fitness site. It’s mostly ready, but I need to refigure my prices and do some other tweaking and then that one will be ready too. Today has been quiet, but differently than yesterday. It’s a disconnected kind of quiet and it’s pretty heavy. Tim and I have been having an off day. He’s sleeping now, so I changed the channel and put on a Bugs Bunny cartoon in the hope that it will give him sweet dreams and warm reminiscings of childhood.

Theme Parkage
I’m not a big fan of theme parks. I mean, they are amazing to look at. It’s the crowds that get me. Wasting hours of my life in lines. The commercialism. The exhorbitant cost. The next-to-no educational value. But I know the kids dig ‘em. So I try to make room for them in my life here and again. Even then, I try to avoid the ones that just suck the life right outta ya. Yesterday we visited Bonfante Gardens. And we were in for a treat. It’s an agriculture themed park, no Bugs Bunny or Mickey Mouse to harangue you into a costly photo. No TV personalities. Replaced instead by kiddie rides shaped like artichokes and apple cores. Beautiful gardens full of rarities. Learning stations. Circus Trees- hand grafted and shaped into enormous works of art. Monarch butterflies flitting all around you while you peruse. Waterfalls all throughout the park. And thanks to a mid-week visit- no lines!!! Wooo! I could dig it.

Backyardigans
The Backyardigans is what all kids shows should strive for. Remember Bugs Bunny and how great he was when you were a kid? You watch Bugs now and he's still funny, but for completely different reasons. That's the way Backyardigans is. It's great for kids - my boys love it. When it comes on, they jump up and dance and sing along. They watch the same episodes over and over (ah, the joys of Tivo), and the thing is, I watch them over and over with them.

Tasmanian Devil In Me
By the summer of 2002 I was feeling way better. I had started to sleep better and was not anywhere near as moody and volatile. Thank god for that. I didn’t want my children to remember their mother as a wicked witch. To say nothing of my husband. I have no idea how he managed to keep loving me. I’m sure it was akin to having a Tasmanian Devil in the house. They are cute in the Bugs Bunny shows but hell to live with.

Cartoon Memories
I remember getting up in the mornings and watching the Little Rascals and the Three Stooges before school everyday. Those shows were old as hell but they are great to this day. The same is true about the cartoons from those days. TBS used to air the good cartoons, Tom and Jerry
, or Bugs Bunny
. The Merrie Melodies
were some of my favorites.

Futurama
Fox and Matt Groening are reportedly discussing a deal to bring Futurama back to Fox for a new season. This being my favorite show I am quite excited by this talk. I was browsing Futurama’s IMDb listing and noticed that Billy West (former voice of Ren and Stimpy, Bugs Bunny, and many others) not only is the voice of Fry, but also Zoidberg, Prof. Farnsworth, Zapp Brannigan, etc, etc.

Good Old Days
But we had the cool cartoons then - Bugs Bunny was and still is the best. I hated all the Popeye cartoons and those other weird ones like Yogi Bear and the Moose guy. But, there wasn't much selection and I was usually too lazy to get up and change the channel, so I would watch it.

Old Cartoons
The cartoons today are no match for the old Warner Brothers’ cartoons. Bugs Bunny, Elmer Fudd and Daffy Duck are much better characters than the ones we have today on Cartoon Network or the horrible Toon Disney channel. Ok, before you begin to scoff at me, Toon Disney does have two good things about it. One, it plays Schoolhouse Rock shorts, and two, it also plays all the old classic Disney movies on Saturday afternoon. I’ll admit that sometimes I do watch Toon Disney specifically to get to see Dumbo, or Bambi, or Snow White, or Cinderella all over again like I did when I was seven or eight and we had a VCR.

Halloween Specials
Posted about cartoons lately? Submit your post using the button at the top of the left column. So where is it? Where is the great pumpkin? I remember on t.v. there used to be halloween specials when I was a kid. Now it just seems that every lame ass show on t.v. has a costume party around this time of year but I haven’t see Charlie Brown in years or the Bugs Bunny Halloween Special. Am I looking in the wrong places? I even tivo’d Halloween this year … a bunch of DIY stuff came up and scary movies. That’s it.

Milkman Replaced
Finally, I seem to remember watching cartoons as a kid, the old WWII era Bugs Bunny cartoons, always joking around that it was the milkman that the housewife was sleeping with. In other words, this can hardly be a new phenomenon. We just don’t have milkmen anymore, so instead the housewife calls the police.

Review: Kung Fu Hustle
Tonight we went to see “Kung Fu Hustle.” A totally different genre from “Head-On,” it’s a comedic send-up of kung fu movies, but complete with all the cool kung fu moves and special effects. It is FUNNY. Ebert wasn’t kidding when he said it’s Jackie Chan and Buster Keaton meets Quentin Tarantino and Bugs Bunny. But really, the most important thing is that it’s a comedy.

A Bugs Bunny Situation
This whole situation reminds me of a Bugs Bunny cartoon (I think it was Bugs, but what do I know?). Bugs and his nemesis are squaring off, and Bugs sketches a line in the sand with his foot. You cross the line and I'll clobber you, he says. Bad guy crosses the line. Bugs steps back, draws another line, threatens the same thing. Repeat ad infinitum.

Happy Mother's Day.
There are two figures in my brothers' and my life to who we can attribute our senses of humor. The first, of course, would be Bugs Bunny. The second--and far more influential--would be Ma. We grew up in a house filled with puns and learned foolery. Sometimes, when the four of us got going around the dinner table, my father would just bury his head in his dish or the evening paper. He didn't get us, but we got Ma. As we grew she would crack wise with our friends, quite a few of which came to call her and my father Mom and Dad.

Bugs Bunny Not Being Redesigned
News from CNN, an AOL company, today released comments from Warner Brothers they they will not be changing Bugs Bunny or moving forward with the newly designed Loonatics. This news coming after a [post on April 22, 2005]in one of WB's online forums from TheWebNewsroom.com for WB to make a public response to questions being raised from thousands of supporters of Bugs Bunny.
The response was superb, various articles around the net in support of Bugs & Friends, the talking heads mentioned it on the national news, shock jocks even defended Bugs but Warner Brothers has yet to respond to it's hardline conservative fans who are now boycotting anything to do with WB. Though some of the worlds leading media wrote in defense of Bugs, many fail to realize that Bugs Bunny himself is just as real to many Americans as Scott Peterson and his demise.

Kung Fu Hustle
I was ready to give up when walking home today, I saw on the Metreon Marquee a movie called Kung Fu Hustle. Kung fu flicks are sort of a thing of mine, so I went inside and looked at the poster. It described the movie as a cross between Bugs Bunny and Quentin Tarantino.
Needless to say, I caught the 10:20 showing of the movie and yes, it very much is a cross between bugs bunny... or more accurately, the roadrunner, classic wirefu and Quentin.

Going To Bed Without Bugs Bunny
He went to bed without protesting too much. Halfway through the movie there was a moment of loud bugs-bunny warner brothers music and he called me.... What are you watching in that other room? Clearly he was about to cry at the thought that he had to be in bed while we all watched bugs bunny. Dude! It broke my heart! I explained it, but did he believe me?

Happy Birthday, Daffy!
As a prima donna, though, Daffy never recovered when he himself was supplanted by Bugs Bunny and has become obsessed with reclaiming the spotlight he lost to Bugs.
But for that matter, I don't like Bugs Bunny anymore anyway. He changed from being a trickster who outwitted his foes to an insufferable know-it-all.
