Jonny's Quest For The Big Screen
The original animated series came out in the 1960’s for one season then saw a revival in the 80’s with a follow-up series in the 90’s on the Cartoon Network, which resulted in a comic book adaptation.

For The 30+ Crowd
You were screwed when it came to channel surfing! You had to get off your ass and walk over to the TV to change the channel and there was no Cartoon Network either! You could only get cartoons on Saturday Morning. Do you hear what I’m saying!?! We had to wait ALL WEEK for cartoons, you spoiled little rat-bastards!

Brighter Minds
The kids are in absolute heaven! They’re busy playing the Brain Quest game right now. The Marvel books must be good, because I caught Noah reading them when he was supposed to be doing his schoolwork. The computer games will have to wait till the weekend because the kids are being disciplined with a “computer-free” week, but they look like a lot of fun. I’m not usually crazy about the Cartoon Network characters, but the game looks like basic arcade game stuff, nothing that really involves the characters’ storylines from the network’s shows.

Family Guy
Family Guy is an American animated sitcom created by Seth MacFarlane for FOX in 1999. The show was cancelled in 2002, but positive response to the show's release on DVD and reruns on Cartoon Network's Adult Swim led FOX to resume production of the show in 2005. To date it is one of only a handful of shows in television history to be cancelled and later revived by the power of their fan bases, and one of the few shows to be brought back to air by the same network that cancelled it.

Episode VII: A New Job
Well, I’ve been looking for TV jobs at various stations and I’ve sent in some applications here and there, sent my resume hither and thither, and I’m definitely feeling frustrated with it. It’s one thing to not hear back from Cartoon Network (one of the places I applied to), but it’s another to actually have a contact giving you the inside scoop and still not seeming to get anywhere with it (which is also the case with another job prospect). I haven’t given up, I’m still looking into those avenues, I’m just not feeling particularly great about them now. It doesn’t help that I’ve been trying to piece together a demo reel from some saved school projects and so far I feel like a lot of the things I’ve done were fun while they were in school, but for the real world don’t look professional at all. Blah. I’m also having fun with the whole “experience catch-22″ situation wherein a lot of the jobs I’m interested in require experience, yet my lack of experience makes it harder for me to get jobs in the first place.

1000 Calories?!
That's disgusting. Now this isn’t some creative genius at work here, since Mr. Vandross seemingly came up with his own version of a sandwich similar in an act of desperation and being bunless. A burger quite similar to this also makes an appearance in the Cartoon Network Adult Swim show The Boondocks episode called “The Itis”. Grandpa makes up a donut burger and opens a restuarant that serves them up. But people get “The Itis’ whenever they eat one of his burgers, which is akin to the all too familiar Food Coma or being Food Drunk. So Grandpa puts beds in his establishment for his patrons to sleep off their Itis. The problem is that people become grossly overweight, and the Itis burger becomes the new crack. People are too fat and too tired to work, they lose their jobs and turn to crime in the streets to get enough money to get their fix of another Itis burger. It’s a bit of social satire, but it certainly has a ring of truth to it. So Krispy Kreme and The Grizzlies certainly can’t lay claim to “inventing” this concoction, but they can lay claim to commercializing it and putting a few people closer to their graves with their every so “tasty” heart clogging “goodness”. *gag*

TV Politics
Giving my grey matter a rest during my boys’ winter break, I had the opportunity to tune into another “World According to Jim” episode called, “Sex Ed Fred”. Although I found it funny (I also find “Family Guy” funny), it was disturbing in a way very different than the in your face, I refuse to be politically correct, experience one receives on the “Adult Swim” channel. This is because the Hollywood liberals who wrote and produced this show had exactly the opposite agenda.Read the whole post.

I am not ashamed to say it - I love Adult Swim on the Cartoon Network. I have always loved cartoons and as I became an adult I discovered cartoons for big people. I mostly love Adult Swim because I really dig anime. I always have.

Dear Cartoon Network
Well, okay, not quite all. Frankly, you’re not playing anything that I either A) haven’t seen [Goonies, Batman, Who Framed Roger Rabbit?, Honey I Shrunk The Kids] or B) have wanted to see [Snow Day, other stuff I’m forgetting]. Part of my opinion is based on the fact that I got to see Batman in the theater about a dozen times* and that The Goonies is a better book than a movie. Part of it is that, frankly, non-animated stuff (outside of commercials, I guess) is just not part of my conception of a cartoon network.

Cartoon Culture
A while back I read this article over on Seward Street about watching more animation –sort of immersing yourself in Cartoon Culture if you will. Now, the truth is, you don’t have to twist my arm to watch more cartoons but here lately I’ve been making a conscious effort. Some of the feature stuff I’ve been watching you can see reviewed below but I’ve also been watching as much stuff on Cartoon Network and Boomerang as I can make time for. On some level, I’ve enjoyed every frame of what I’ve seen recently. For instance, I watched an old Laserdisc of Tex Avery cartoons and thought some of them were brilliantly funny. The thing that’s made the biggest impression on me recently however was an old episode of “Toonheads” on Boomerang. The show was titled “The Dreams of Bob Clampett” and it was nothing but old Clampett Warner cartoons featuring dream sequences. This of course included gems like “The Big Snooze” and “Duck Twacy”. Not only are these shorts very, very funny they also have a loose rubbery style that grabs the eye and holds it. I was just grinning from ear-to-ear during the whole show.

The State Of Cartoons
You know, I really wonder what goes on in the mind’s of the people who make cartoon’s on Cartoon Network. I just finished watching “Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy” Oddly it is rated TVY7. Personal I think it should not even be aloud on the TV, but as I was saying I wonder who makes this shit! Most of the cartoons are pointless and just plain dumb. I have noticed that most cartoons here in the United States, well just plain suck! This is why I like Japanese Anime. Number 1. Most arnt stupid, now I have to say there are alot out there like “Super Milk Chan” that well, are no better then some of the cartoon’s here, but never the less most of anime is great. Sadly I do not get Anime Network here so I have to watch Cartoon Network for my daily dose of cartoons.

Cartoon Network Racist?
Come on, Adult Swim. You can give us Robot Chicken and Aqua Teen Hunger Force, which are consistently funny television shows. This is the best you can do now - retreading a comic strip that gets its best press when it savages a successful black woman for not being black enough and who says proudly that “I don’t give a f*** about what white people think”.

Ticke U: A Must For Toddlers
Recently, Cartoon Network launched a new television program specifically for preschool aged children called Tickle U. As a mother of three boys, Cartoon Network is probably the most watched channel in our home. While the oldest boy loves most of the cartoons, most of the programming would not hold the interest of the toddlers. When I was offered the opportunity to join Tickle U's parent advisory board, I jumped at the chance!

Toonzone: The Evil Empire
I have been watching the evil empire, Toonzone. Very Closely. And what I see, is the same liberal bullshit. My friends, Toonzone is and will continue for the forseeable future, an ajunt to Cartoon Network. You see, this site Toon Radio Advance- is not afraid of AOL Time Warner, Disney, Viacom west and east, or News Corp. Its not afraid of Sony, nor NBC Uni, nor WWE or MsNotNBC. Anybody in the industry that has something wrong, we will expose it. No matter how much power they have. And we will defend who needs defending.

DC Unveils New Logo
What I suspect is unmentioned in the Times article is the significance of what’s unmentioned in the logo: Comics. The word wasn’t in the 70’s logo either, but it didn’t have to be because back then, all it was really used for was comic books. That was the only business DC was in. Today, the entity we think of as DC is the division of Time-Warner that has the primary control of Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, et al, and — oh, yeah — they also publish comic books of them and try to develop new properties in other comic books.

Full Metal Alchemist
Well, it’s really, really, really cool. It’s the steampunk scifi, magic, relationship between Ed and Al, and the episodic juxtapositions between how the world should work vs. how it does that make this show stand out (Mr. Tobin would be proud of that sentence). I “acquired” the entire series (51 eps.) and watched from ep. 30 until the conclusion yesterday, since 1-26 already aired on Cartoon Network, and I can’t wait until August to watch 27+. It’s just about the most animated fun I’ve ever had.

Space Ghost Coast to Coast
For those who don’t know, Space Ghost Coast to Coast is on the Cartoon Network and recasts a 1960’s cartoon character as a talk show host. Space Ghost “interviews celebrities” and they generally talk nonsense. The interview subjects are actually filmed ahead of time in front of a black screen without really knowing what the show is about and then the show creators edit together old cartoon footage and re-dub Space Ghost’s lines.

Revenge of the Sith Homework
Nohemi and I just got back from watching the movie. I have to refer to the link that I posted a few days ago because the microseries shown in Cartoon Network makes this episode more fun. It explains the Clone Wars which is what happens between episode 2 and 3. The microseries ends about the same day that episode 3 starts. It explains why General Grevious breaths funny. The movie itself is awesome and lightsaber fights up the wazoo. However, ultimate lightsaber fight is still Darth Maul vs OB1 & Qui Gon.

Star Wars to Continue on TV
The first is a live action program based on "Star Wars
," but don't expect it to focus around any of the main movie characters. The untitled project will be set somewhere between Episodes III ("Sith") and IV ("A New Hope"). The other show, "Clone Wars
," is a half-hour 3-D animated series based on the existing series of shorts that were shown on the Cartoon Network. Broadcast dates, networks, and Muppet-related appearances have not yet been announced for either project.

Super(man) Buy at Best Buy
A two DVD set containing all 17 original episodes of the Max Fleischer Superman serial for one low price of $5.99? Are you kidding me? We live in a great time.
And the kids actually love these episodes. Whenever one of them is broadcast on Cartoon Network channel surfing comes to an immediate halt. And believe me, from an animation standpoint, this stuff is Fantasia when you compare it to the DC dreck of the 60’s and 70’s, and the kids know it. The Fleischer Superman episodes were apparently among the most expensive animated shorts of their day, and the attention to detail shows.

Star Wars: Revenge of the Brick
LEGO Star Wars: Revenge of the Brick aired last night on The Cartoon Network. It was only about 7 minutes long, but was well worth making an effort to see. Treehouse Animation did an outstanding job at not taking the animated short too seriously. Instead they focused on fun and humor. The results were awesome. My personal favorite part was near the end credits, where we see Darth Vader construction a Stormtrooper Orchestra with his glowing red lightsaber. Instant classic!

Guilty Pleasures
In the interim between episodes two and three, I've really been enjoying the "Clone Wars" series on Cartoon Network, and I've started buying Star Wars graphic novels again. I finally picked up the "Dark Empire" books, and I've really been enjoying the "Clone Wars" comics. There are five volumes and the stories within describe the campaigns and battles between the Republic, the Confederacy, and the systems caught between.

Hi Hi Puffy AmiYumi
i just watched this rad cartoon on the cartoon network called Hi Hi Puffy AmiYumi. i guess its based on a j-pop band of the same name. theyre the ones who sing the theme song to Teen Titans also on cartoon network. anyway, the show is super funny. in the episode i saw, ami and yumi ate some really cheap sushi which made them start seeing things. their tour bus turned into a submarine and when they saw a walrus they said: “look out, its the giant one eyed walrus! we’re going to be coo-coo-ca-chewed!!”

The Edge Recording For Cartoon Network?
Read the whole thing. There is a new series on Cartoon Network called The Batman, which is yet another attempt to squeeze a little more revenue out of the Dark Knight. But what got my attention is that when I saw the credits, I saw that the theme music, which you will hear if you visit the above link, was composed and performed by The Edge, also known as Dave Evans of U2, and owner of one of the most unspeakably cool nicknames imaginable. It's not the first time The Edge has contributed to a TV series, having contributed to The Casino and Smallville. But it got my attention, because I usually don't associate The Edge and Cartoon Network.

Adult Swim Throws Us A Bone
Read the whole thing. When Cartoon Network first came onto the scene it was owned by the Turner Network and had access to the entire Turner library of animation. This included a large chunk of Warner Brothers cartoons (Looney Tunes / Merrie Melodies up to 1948) and (I believe) the entire Hanna-Barbera library (Scooby-Doo, Flintstones, etc). Naturally Cartoon Network became to be known as just a network that reran old Hanna-Barbera cartoons. Frustrated with this image, Mike Lazzo (a producer at CN) asked Turner if they could create their own shows.
Turner did not want to spend any more money on the network so told them they had to use what they already had. Thus was born “Space Ghost Coast to Coast“, a show that reused bits of animation from an old H-B cartoon ("Space Ghost” naturally) but set the hero as a late-night talk-show host, added an alien sidekick (from the original show), spliced in bits of interviews with celebrities and laced the show with a surreal strain of humour. Thus was born the late night “Adult Swim” block of programming within the Cartoon Network schedule.
