Pakistan Takes Down YouTube

The youtube take down didn't last too long in Pakistan, but the cartoon controversy just won't die.

The whole debacle started on Friday when Pakistan ordered access to YouTube be blocked due to videos including the cartoons of the Prophet Mohammed that caused such a stir last year. When the telecoms did as the Pakistani government ordered, all traffic requests for YouTube were sent to a virtual black hole where the data was discarded. The problem became global when somehow their traffic redirect got sent out to one of the twenty largest data carriers, PCCW of Hong Kong.

The E Ticket Ride

Too bad about the line at the Finding Nemo ride.

We were only in California Adventure for about an hour before the park closed and then we walked back over to Disneyland in time to watch the fireworks. Since we figured most of the guests were on Main Street watching the fireworks we would try to get on the revamped Submarine ride – now featuring “Finding Nemo” (that seemed like a tame enough ride for Tom). Well, the line to get on the ride was bout 6 miles long! So, we got on “Pirates of The Caribbean” which has been updated and now includes lines from the movies and several life-like and very creepy Johnny Depp likenesses!

Did The Incredibles inspire Apple's newest laptop?

Review: Aqua Teen Hunger Force Colon Movie

This review says the Aqua Teen Hunger Force movie is as repetitious as the TV show.

I used to watch the eleven-minute weekly cartoon Aqua Teen Hunger Force on Cartoon Network with some regularity, until I realized that every eleven-minute episode was the SAME eleven minutes over and over, just with a revolving door of oddball supporting characters. Of course, now that I said that, I will have gotten some nerd’s geek-panties in a twist and they will educate me on the subtle and minute differences between “Baloonenstein” and “The Broodwich.”

All About Dick Tracy

A great post on Dick Tracy.

Dick Tracy has had quite a few spin-offs in other media, from radio series to movie serials to a few cartoons (now on DVD), to the 1990 Warren Beatty film. Maybe you didn’t like it, but I love this movie. Heck, I even dug the board game they made from it. The film had fantastic sets and colors to reflect the old-timey Sunday comic strip tone, and it featured a pile of classic Tracy baddies. This film fueled my fondness for Dick Tracy. It also spawned a tie-in comic with art by Kyle Baker, which is cool. Usually, Tracy’s involvement in the world of comic books is through reprints, but this was original material. I’d like to see something of the kind these days– maybe a “Dick Tracy Begins” kind of graphic novel? That’d be interesting.

Mike Wieringo

A look at the work of Mike Wieringo.
